Courtney Continues USAC Title Chase after Strong Eldora Weekend

Lonnie Wheatley, INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (May 17, 2018) – The beat continues for Tyler Courtney and the Clauson-Marshall-Newman Racing Priority Aviation No. 7bc Sprint Car team this weekend with another pair of USAC Amsoil National Sprint Car events.

Friday night finds “Sunshine” in action at Tri-City Speedway in Granite City, IL, before moving on to Pevely, Missouri’s Federated Auto Parts I-55 Raceway on Saturday night.

Courtney enters the weekend double sitting a strong third in series points after an impressive #LetsRaceTwo weekend at Rossburg, Ohio’s Eldora Speedway that included finishes of sixth last Friday night and then second in the Saturday night finale.

“It was a good weekend for us, we had a good car again,” Courtney said of the weekend.

Courtney timed in fifth on Friday night before posting a fourth place finish in his heat race. He finished out the evening with a sixth-place run in the feature event.

“We struggled a little on Friday night,” Courtney commented. “But we just shook it off and did a lot better on Saturday.”

Indeed they did, stopping the clocks with the night’s second quickest time and then posting a third-place heat race finish to land the fifth starting position for the feature.

Courtney emerged from a wild battle for position to take command of second near the midway point and held the position the rest of the way for his tenth top-five finish of the year in 19 starts.

“Those guys were racing each other so hard that it took a while to get through them,” Courtney said of the battle for second.

Limited laps and no cautions didn’t give Courtney an opportunity to challenge for the win. “I think a caution could have made it interesting,” Courtney commented.

Friday’s outing at Tri-City Speedway will mark Sunshine’s first event there in several years while he got his first taste of Federated Auto Parts I-55 Raceway several weeks ago in Midget competition.

2018 Quick Stats: 19 races, 3 wins, 10 top-fives, 12 top-tens.
