Sprint Car Double for Sunshine after BC39 Top-Five!

Lonnie Wheatley, INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (September 14, 2018) – Tyler Courtney resumes his pursuit of the Amsoil USAC National Sprint Car championship with this weekend’s pair of events at the Terre Haute Action Track and Haubstadt Speedway.

Just one point off the lead pace, Courtney aims for a third consecutive series win this season atop the storied Terre Haute Action Track on Friday before gunning for the $10,000 winner’s share at Haubstadt on Saturday.

Courtney enters the weekend with 11 overall wins to his credit on the year including a USAC Sprint Car best of nine triumphs aboard the Clauson-Marshall-Newman Racing Priority Aviation No. 7bc entry.

“Sunshine” goes into this weekend after capturing the first checkered flag in heat race action at the newly-constructed Dirt Track at Indianapolis Motor Speedway before finishing out the event with a fourth-place finish in last Thursday night’s 39-lap USAC Midget BC39 finale.

Courtney had to works for his heat race win aboard the Clauson-Marshall Racing Driven2SaveLives/Indiana Donor Network No. 7bc entry, taking the lead early only to spin soon after. Courtney battled back from the tail of the field to win the first heat race at the new track.

“I made that harder that it needed to be,” Courtney commented afterward. “My radio came unplugged so I didn’t hear the caution going into three and when I saw that car spun out, I spun myself around. At least we got some good points going fifth to first.”

Courtney climbed from sixth to third in Thursday’s qualifying race action to earn the front row outside starting position for the BC39 finale and battled among the lead pack throughout before settling for fourth at the stripe.

2018 Quick Stats: 58 races, 11 wins, 35 top-fives, 43 top-tens.

Up Next: USAC National Sprint Cars at the Terre Haute Action Track on Friday and Haubstadt Speedway on Saturday.
