Lonnie Wheatley, INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (September 26, 2018) – Tyler Courtney continued his 2018 tear by picking off a pair of wins during Saturday night’s “Four Crown Nationals” at Rossburg, Ohio’s Eldora Speedway.
“Sunshine” ran his season win total to 13 after topping both the USAC National Midget and USAC National Sprint Car portion of the “Four Crown Nationals”.
Sitting just 17 points shy of the Amsoil USAC National Sprint Car points lead, Courtney will try to move to the top spot with this weekend’s set of events that begins with the conclusion of the Kokomo Sprint Car Smackdown on Thursday night before moving on to Gas City I-69 Speedway on Friday and then Lawrenceburg Speedway on Saturday.
Pulling triple-duty at the “Four Crown Nationals” the USAC Midget feature was the first on the docket.
Courtney pulled off a complete sweep of the Midget portion, setting a quick time of 16.475 seconds aboard the Clauson-Marshall Racing Driven2SaveLives/Indiana Donor Network No. 7bc entry and then winning his heat race before needing just ten laps to race into the lead from the sixth starting position to capture his second USAC Midget score of the year.
“Tim and everybody at Clauson-Marshall Racing gave me one heck of a car,” Courtney exclaimed in victory lane. “Anytime you get to win at Eldora, it’s special. To do it during 4-Crown is even cooler.”
Shifting to the Clauson-Marshall-Newman Racing Priority Aviation No. 7bc USAC Sprint Car, Courtney made it two wins on the night by racing to his tenth series win of the year from the pole position. Courtney snared the lead on the third round and led the rest of the way in the 30-lapper.
After timing in sixth-quick aboard the Hans Lein No. 97 USAC Silver Crown entry on Friday night, Courtney tried to round out the Saturday USAC portion of the “Four Crown Nationals” with a repeat score in Silver Crown competition only to get overturned just eight laps into the 50-lap finale.
Courtney goes into Thursday’s weather-delayed Kokomo Smackdown finale atop the point charts after topping both preliminary events last month. Courtney will be the top seed in the “King of the Hill” pole shuffle. Friday will mark Courtney’s first start of the year at Gas City with Saturday his Lawrenceburg return after taking Indiana Sprintweek honors.
